Visitors and volunteers under age 18 refer to Minors in Laboratories on the EHS website.
These are individuals that are not conducting any research using hazardous materials or equipment.
Primary Principal Investigator is notified and has given approval.
Visitors are always escorted by a responsible member of the laboratory or facility.
Visitors are briefed on potential hazards, exposure response, and emergency procedures.
Frequent or long-term visitors may also be required to take online awareness or safety trainings. Documentation of briefings and trainings is recommended.
Entry or work in any lab where biological materials are in use (regardless of the biosafety level) may pose an elevated risk of infection for individuals who are immunocompromised.
Recommendations are to consult with the Principal Investigator or Director of the facility and consult with the occupational health provider before entering the laboratory if there is a possibility of being immunocompromised. Conditions such as pregnancy, recent illnesses, chemotherapy, and others may result in an immunocompromised state of health.
