Corrective actions:

Inspect laboratory for any signs of insects or pests. Manage waste appropriately. Laboratory windows that open to the exterior should be fitted with screens. Check the integrity of screens in windows if applicable.

If you suspect there is a pest problem in your lab

  • Contact MSU IPF for assistance at by placing a service request.
  • Some buildings and departments have a manager or administrator that will handle this.

Additional information:

Many pests, such as flies and cockroaches, can mechanically transmit disease pathogens and compromise the research environment. Even the presence of innocuous insects can contribute to the perception of unsanitary conditions therefore keeping lab environments clean and free of non-research related insects is necessary.
