EPA Restrictions on TCE, PCE, DCM in Effect May 1
April 30, 2025 - T. McCord
Effective Thursday, May 1, 2025 labs are required to follow EPA rules for TCE, PCE, and DCM.
Trichloroethylene (TCE) and Perchloroethylene (PCE)
- Any use of TCE and PCE is prohibited.
- All labs should dispose of any TCE or PCE in their lab, even if it isn’t actively being used.
Methylene Chloride/Dichloromethane (DCM)
- DCM should be replaced with a less hazardous chemical wherever possible.
- DCM use is restricted to designated, pre-approved spaces where additional safety controls are present.
- The EHS online Methylene Chloride Safety training must be completed prior to entry into a DCM space.
- The complete Dichloromethane Research Compliance Plan is available on the EHS website.
